PTPA is growing – welcome our newest members
As we move into summer, our PTPA is healthy and growing. We have 31 members participating in this Sunday’s Singles Tournament. In the last few weeks we have added several new members. Make a point to introduce yourselves to them and help them get oriented to our special community. Welcome Kellen Lynch, Brad Hanson, Todd Johnson and Christopher Halstead. This brings us to 77 members.
PT Doubles Tourney was a great success
Congratulations to Sally Holm and Bekah Howe, who won the Women's League final over Jeanette Reisenberg and Rhonda Lauth. Tom Niemann and Andrew Sheldon won the Men's League final over Peter Wiant and Michael Frantz. The winners received coveted medals to commemorate their victories, their names engraved on the permanent Champions Trophy, and perhaps most valuable of all, lock up their spots on the Cross-Sound Cup team that will take on Edmonds Pétanque Club at Ft. Worden on September 19. Many thanks to all the members and guests who turned out to watch the matches; they were treated to high-quality play throughout the afternoon. Also special thanks to Joe Caldwell who provided a delicious spread on the picnic tables.

Next tournament up is the PTPA Singles Championship on June 7.
We have 31 people signed up so far. There are two divisions for that event: "Championship" for competitive tournament players and "Club" for players newer to the game and wanting to experience meaningful matches.
PTPA was one of the highlights of the 2026 Rhody Parade

It was a fine and beautiful day in Port Townsend and a near perfect day for the Annual Rhody Parade! Several members of the PTPA participated in the parade. It was a fun day filled with much camaraderie and good team spirit. Appreciation goes out to the members who came out in support of the Board's efforts to engage in community spirit and promote our club to the broader Port Townsend community. Vice President Zee initiated the effort. Considered a successful event and suggestions for next year from our members were encouraging.

Port Townsend PTPA participated in Walla Walla May 30-31 Tournament
Peter Wiant and his partner from Walla Walla Lloyd Eggan won third place. Rob Gruyer and Kellan also played The weather was perfect, low 80s and sunny skies.

Join us at the June 20/21 tournament in Portland.
FPUSA NW hosts a regional men’s doubles and women’s doubles on Saturday, and mixed doubles on Sunday. You can register through the FPUSA website (link on the bottom of the “event calendar” page on our website). Registration is open until June 14. We have at least 6 PTPA members signed up already!
PTPA is sending two teams to the international tournament in France this fall.
The 2026 Corsica Tournament is September 18-20. At least 4-5 PTPA members (Tayloe, Dave, Chuck, John Erickson, Tom C and Tayloe’s Canadian brother Brandon Winter will be participating, and the setting on the island of Corsica cannot be beaten. International de pétanque - Le Paoli - Balagne Corsica.
Save the date for our July 16 Low Tide Tourney
Volunteers needed to help Robert. One of our most unusual events at Boathaven is the annual Low Tide Tournament. Robert Force is in charge of this event and would welcome 2-3 volunteers who can assist him in making it happen. Robert reports: Both Wednesday July 15 and Thursday July 16 are ideal. Wednesday low tide is -3.1 at 11:12 am— just before noon. Thursday is not quite as low at -2.4 but it happens at 11:59 which is ideal— right at noon! A suggestion is to schedule our Wednesday club day there at the boatyard beach— let members experience the fun and the nature of that sauvage environment— then have the tournament the next day. Being at the start of the Larry Scott trail, there are public sanicans there. On the 16th we will have select doubles. Random draw. 40-minute plus one end rounds starting at 10. Registration and set-up the hour before. Swiss draw (winners play winners, etc). Three games before lunch. Lunch at 1 pm. Single elimination games start at two— concurs and consolante. Should be plenty of beach left to finish playing. Donations are welcome and will be passed on to Jefferson County Food Bank.

Mark your calendars to come out on July 5 and vote on revisions to PTPA Bylaws.
We earlier sent out to all members the proposed changes.
Why was a rewrite needed?
The new Bylaws generally follow the previous Bylaws. Most changes align the Bylaws with how our Club actually operates. They reorganize the Bylaws for clarity, and omit sections that were contradictory, outdated or obsolete.
Major changes
1. Allows the Board to cast email votes between meetings, if a timely decision is needed.
2. Removes the requirement that the Sports Director must be a Board member. Instead allows the President, with Board consent, to appoint the Sports Director (currently Tom Challinor).
3. Creates, as a standing committee, an Events Committee, which includes the Sports Director.
4. Creates the position of “auditor” to assure that operations and finances are overseen.
5. Creates an avenue for the members to recall a Board member.
Clarifications
Clarifies that the ultimate authority of PTPA is its members.
More detail on how members are nominated and elected to Board positions.
Clarifies the responsibilities of each Board position.
Clarifies that all nominated appointees of the President must be confirmed by a Board majority.
At our July 5 Game Day, members will be asked to vote on whether to adopt these Bylaw revisions.
PTPA Board meets June 17 at Tayloe’s house at 11:00 am.
Agenda will be circulated prior to the meeting.
PTPA Low Tide Open merchandise is now available for you to order!
Zee and George have worked with Candace at Corvus Crafts to develop a range of PTPA Low Tide Open shorts and hoodies with this image:

You can check out the range of cool clothing on our website. Once you decide on what you want, be like Warren and order directly from Candace. Here is her guidance on how to order:
Please let your members know that the site says orders are fulfilled within 2 weeks from purchase date and each piece is custom made. This is our busy time of year and we will prioritize these orders as we do all merch site orders. We do not hold inventory, we do not offer try ons, we do not accept other people’s clothing to put the artwork on, nor do we offer styles and colors outside of what the team agreed upon for the site.
When orders are ready, we will call and let the client know it’s ready for pick up during business hours.
If a member of the club is not proficient online, they are welcome to call or stop by and place their order with us. It’s highly recommended that they call and make an appt to work with us on a personalized order as we cannot always be free to walk ins, but we will always do our best to help as time allows.
