Hello Fellow Pétanquers,
We're writing to share important news regarding the Port Townsend Open for 2025. Due to circumstances beyond our control concerning our court venue, we've made the difficult decision to cancel the Port Townsend Open, originally scheduled for August 9th and 10th.
As you know, our courts are beautifully situated within Fort Worden, a State Park. We've always partnered with another organization operating within the park, but that group recently dissolved. This means we're now establishing a new direct relationship and lease agreement with Washington State Parks – which is a positive step for our long-term future at the Fort Worden terrains!
While we navigate the details of this new partnership, we want to ensure any tournament we host this year has guaranteed court access. Unfortunately, the scheduled weekend for the PT Open coincides with the popular Jefferson County Fair, making our usual back-up venue unavailable. We explored alternative dates, but summer weekends are quite busy in Port Townsend with various festivals, and coordinating our tournament crew also proved challenging.
To avoid any potential last-minute disruptions for players, we felt it was best to make this decision now and give everyone as much notice as possible. We truly regret any disappointment this may cause.
On a brighter note, we are thrilled to confirm that our Northwest Regional Doubles tournaments on June 28th and 29th will proceed as planned. We have secured a back-up venue for this event if needed, so you can register with confidence. We can't wait to see you there – registration details will be announced very soon!
Thank you for your understanding as we work through these changes. We are excited about strengthening our relationship with the State Parks and look forward to welcoming everyone back for a fantastic Port Townsend Open in 2026!
Warm regards,
The Port Townsend Petanque Alliance Board of Directors
